To help you monitor your usage, you will see warning messages about remaining capacity. When you reach your rate limits, you can select from a few options based on your needs:
*If you're on the $100 Max plan (5x Pro usage), consider upgrading to the $200 Max plan (20x Pro usage) if you consistently hit limits.
*You will have the flexibility to switch to pay-as-you-go usage with an Anthropic Console account. This will provide flexibility for intensive coding sprints.
*Wait till your rate limits reset.

Kilo Code is just straight up lying to drive business to their own AI - one would argue just as or more scummy than the practice (which, again, Anthropic DIDN'T DO) they are calling out in this sham blog post
Kilo Code is still young and fresh. It's is easy to poke at the old dogs reacting to money pinches and pushing enshittification downstream to customers. Let's see how well Kilo is doing at staying out of that game in 12, 24 and 36 months, if at all.
(I hope so, I really do! But this old dog has watched many enthusiasms rush on by and have their aspirational honesty eaten into threadbare loincloths, covering nothing.)
You know, that's a fair point, it's a tale as old as time. OpenAI being named "open AI" is a very good, VERY recent example.
It's a question that is hard to answer, and even harder to prove, but I hope that you can keep watching Kilo and see if we can live up to our own hype!
no one will be happier than me to learn my pessimissm turns out to be unfounded with respect to Kilo. :) Let us revisit annually and see how things are going.
I was there as it took Google about 10-12 years to shift from awesome to shit, and 18 before they stopped pretending and removed "don't be evil" from their code of conduct. Culture in 2025 is different than 2000 and we're generally more attuned to rug pull dynamics. Maybe that extra watchfulness will be enough? <x-fingers>
I know we're early but I'll try to keep to this 'open' mantra as long as we're here. Google. Stripe for eg is still the way they are vs. 5 years ago, so there are companies that give hope.
Thank you for the article; it's really nice to see some transparency upfront, I cant say im a dev myself, I havent program for 3 decades, and been vibe coding and debugging personal projects and I keep seeing or reaching my limits per day in most AI platform, like in Grok AI, Gemii and Google before they become slow or showing errors that cannot respond, If im a small fry who is dependent on this, how much more on those dev that uses those max plans, and is really depedent on those high subscriptions, their workflow would be severly affected.
I do love Kilo code method of buiness, at least dev (or like me aspiring dev) would know the usage and limits, so things can be manage and control un-necessary API calls(or whatever it is called) and usage be keep under minimum.
I would definitely subscribe at Kilo code if chances permitted.
Joel: You are hairsplitting. They are still selling "unlimited", but it's not unlimited and hasn't been for a while. And now the new thing is weekly limits in addition to the session limits.
In what sense are they selling “unlimited”? Everything I remember seeing from Anthropic has been clear that there are usage limits. Can you link to something published by Anthropic that implies it’s unlimited?
My friend subscribed to cursor just today 😃 if I make him ditch it then can we get $100 bonus from kilo 😉
Claude Code has had usage limits on the Max plan since at least the beginning of June. Whatever they just changed it wasn’t revoking unlimited access.

in fact, they NEVER used the term "unlimited" in their press release about it: https://www.anthropic.com/news/max-plan

The link does not work. Did someone say bait and switch?
